Our Treadle Sewing Machine
I hope you and your family had an enjoyable 4th of July. I watched the local parade in Baileys Harbor. It was a strange thing to need a jacket at the parade, but also a welcome change from getting sunburned and overheating at the Central Illinois parades.
One of the items in my shop that gets a lot of attention isn’t a quilt! It’s an 1881 Treadle sewing machine, which a dear friend gave me as she downsized and I prepared to open the shop (Thanks, Donna & Ray).
My son-in-law did a great job polishing it up when their family helped me set up the shop. It adds character to my shop as one of my display tables.
I have learned from visitors that the extensive gold filigree and etched end plate are an indication of a high-end machine.
On my time off I try to find time to remind myself why I love being here in Door County. Last week I visited Washington Island for the first time in a long time with a friend. On Wednesday nights I like heading across the street to the waterfront park to listen to the weekly concerts after I close the shop.
