Virginia Erickson will tell you that it’s the process that fascinates her far more than the finished creation.
Her signature items are always one-of-a-kind and reversible with two complementary themes that offer “twice the enjoyment.” and can be used throughout the year in your home.
In 2003 she caught the quilting bug from her sister and began quilting in her spare time. Sewing wasn’t new to Erickson, having learned to sew in 4-H as a child and making many memorable halloween costumes and special occasion garments for herself and family over the years.
Since retiring in 2017 she has sold at local holiday markets before opening Twice the Quilt and More in Sister Bay where she also sells creations from her many talented friends, providing the wide variety you see in store.
Over the years various projects have earned ribbons including the Championship Quilt at the Champaign IL County Fair in 2021. Erickson is quick to brush aside the awards as “a bunch of different ribbons.”
The recognitions dearest to her heart are for “Best in Show” a Viewer’s Choice award at the Salt Creek Patchmakers Quilt Guild show. . “A jury award is nice,” she concedes; “however the collective voice of all those in attendance is highest praise to me.” She has won it twice. In 2019 for her “Union Sampler quilt. A nearly queen bed-sized work with 120 unique blocks. For the second time in 2022 for her 365 Challenge Quilt. A years worth of daily blocks to sew. It took Erickson several years to complete.
