Pantone Project
Last month I shared the Pantone color of the year, Viva Magenta. It’s a bright bold red, great in small accents on a quilt! Have you seen it in stores yet?
I used it as inspiration to make a Table Runner. Bold colors like this are great to use with patterns that have contrast. I chose this flower quilt block with a contrasting background to show off the Magenta flowers. The soft green and pastel background further accents the bold magenta. I decided I needed a pop of color and added bright yellow to the flowers. Repeating blocks is a great way to make a table runner. You can change the length by adding borders or sashing to fit the table size.
Refurbishing the Treadle Machine
The antique treadle machine in the shop got a lot of attention last summer. The works were rusted and the needle would not go up or down, so I decided to send it off to Scott Geller at Cow Country Vintage Sewing Machines in Oconta, Wisconsin to get a deep clean and refurbish to put it in working order. Scott was able to tell me that it is a class 15-115 machine, made in December 1915. It is the first 115 that he has had in his shop.
While I was on a quilting retreat I received some training on using a treadle machine. When it returns to the shop this summer it will be ready to use and I can start sewing!
Updating our Website
After such a successful first year in Sister Bay, we have made the decision to close our online store, and will be only selling at our retail location. If you are looking for something specific you can always contact us and we can still ship it to you.
