Another quilt went ‘home’

It is a special day when a customer stands in front of a quilt in the store and says ‘It is speaking to me’ or after touching it, says ‘This is the one that will replace the one given to me as a child by my grandmother and it’s worn out.’

This one went home with a young lady who was looking for the perfect quilt to carry in her truck. It even matched the color! She will use it for outings to the park or beach and on cold, wintery days when she wants to cover the vinyl seats of the truck, so it feels warmer.

I get this feeling every time I place a runner or a quilt in the sack to send it out the door with a new owner. This person has connected with this decorative item, and it will occupy a special place in their home.

Last Week’s Helpers

My grandchildren enjoyed helping me last week at the store. They helped me move into the space last year and have wanted to come ‘work’ ever since that time.

The oldest’s favorite thing to do has always been using the tagging gun to put price tags on each item. I have counted on her to do this at the beginning of every season. She was a real store clerk when she learned to use the point-of-sale system and check out customers. She surprised her mother the next time they were at the store by doing it more.

She can’t wait to be old enough to come help grandma regularly. It will be a hard decision when she has to choose between coming to Sister Bay and participating in her favorite summer activities.

Kim learned to sew as a teen making garments and household items, setting it aside for years in favor of the on-the-go crafts of crocheting and knitting while riding to work and other long drives.

After being captivated by a quilt top at a thrift store and asking a friend to help her finish it, Kim found her way back to the sewing machine and quilting. Her quilting projects are both big and small from placemats to large bed quilts.
