Caring for Your Quilts

As the temperature drops and you are changing out your bedding for something warmer. Its a great time to care for your quilts. But how exactly do you do that?

We have three easy steps to keep your bed quilts and textiles fresh all year long.

Washing Your Quilts

Our quilts and related goods are made with 100% cotton batting which means you can launder them at home in your washing machine.

Queen or king-size quilts will need an oversized machine so there is room for it to move in the machine.

Wash using a warm or cold water cycle. Use a Color Catcher or two in the wash cycle to prevent high-contrast colors from bleeding within the quilt.

Tumble Dry quilts on low to dry. For Tabletoppers and Wall Hangings hang or lay flat to dry.
Quilts may have a wrinkled look after being washed, this is typical and a sign of a well-loved quilt.

If you have a quilt with wool or polyester batting it’s important to use cold water wash and low drying cycles.

Refolding

After laundering, it is ideal to lay them out on a bed, not folding them at all. If you plan to store your quilt, refold your quilt in a different pattern so the same creases do not get repeatedly worn into the quilt causing damage or signs of wear.

Storage

Quilts need to breathe. Store your quilt in a pillowcase on the shelf to protect it from dust and not in a plastic tote or bag which can trap moisture leading to mildew or mold. If they are stored for an extended period, open them out and refold them at least annually.
